Doodle as recipe book for Tiny Creative Chefs

As you have all probably heard by now, the ever amazing and creative Raine from Lime Tree Fuits (I think we all use at least some of her awsome inserts!), created a beautifully illustrated children’s cooking e-course with the cute name

Tiny Creative Chefs

I fell instantly in love when I saw the first announcement and enrolled!
How can you not love those cute faces?!!!
Each weekend during 4 weeks you receive a new recipe that your kids can cook. And since every step of the way is illustrated, it’s not even necessary that your kids can read yet! (of course, you should offer your assistance when it comes to chopping ingredients and the like).

It’s such a fun time, together with your kids. Of course you can cook or make every recipe in the world together with your children. What makes Tiny Creative Chefs so special is that your child will feel totally in charge!

I tried out the first recipe with my 9 year old daughter. She has Asperger syndrome, so the outside world is not always that easy for her. But she „grows“ if she gets to do stuff on her own, if I let her be responsible for something. And so I gave her the printout of the first week’s recipe (I had printed it on A4 pages and ARC’d them), and asked her if she’d like to do it.
A4 sheets in ARC rings

Now, even though she doesn’t read or speak English, the illustrations are literally self-explanatory. (Okay, she did hesitate about „parsley“ and I interfered when she commented that it was probably some flowers and wanted to go outside to pick some LOL.)
Ingredients gathered and ready to go!
She had the greatest fun preparing the recipe (which she served as „starters“ for that night’s dinner), and it was so tasty!
The e-course also comes with extra goodies for each week, like menu and „made by“ cards.
One very proud girl!
And little flags to decorate the food. In fact, it includes a complete „party package“ and even includes cute little drinking bottle decorations!
We actually used the little flags on some cupcakes that we brought to a party at friends. Huuuuge success!
Fun indeed!
When I received the 2nd week’s recipes, my kids complained that the A4 ARC „binder“ was too big and cumbersome for the kitchen. My oldest daughter suggested to print it out for a Filofax. My collection is greatly reduced, and I would have preferred an A5 size, but the kids unanimously agreed that it would be great in the Filofax Doodle (which I had won in Imy’s contest).
So I printed out the pages on personal sized paper, and sorted it after the numbered tabs.
Week 1 behind Tab 1 ...
... and week 2 behind Tab 2 (I'm soooo clever!)
The binder itself is made of a sort of plastic and is less prone to damages  and scratches than – say – a Domino. In fact, the cover even wipes clean with a damp cloth!
Now my children can browse through the pages during cooking. And there’s always room for a personal sized binder on the counter!

Fantastic "27 Dresses/Filofax" Give-Away!!

Apparently, there are still a few peeps out there who never watched the movie "27 dresses"! Those of us how have watched it, were mesmerized by that fat, well-loved red Filofax that Katherine Heigl kept consulting. Remember how it looked like?

Take a peek inside:
Oh look! She even carries a white Filofax pen!

Of course everybody (okay, perhaps not EVERYbody) started guessing what Filofax model it was? I managed to capture a picture, that unfortunately appeared a bit orangy/browny on screen (and - yes - since you ask: orangy and browny are proper colors!). It's a red personal sized Topaz!

Apparently too stuffed to be closed ...

Okay, we knew it was a personal Topaz. And we wanted one. Well, at least I wanted one after I finished the movie, but it turned out that the little buggers were loooooong discontinued.

I managed to snap one up from eBay! Not new, but in a lovely condition! Look at that wonderful vibrant red color!!!

On the left you will find 5 credit card slots and a secretarial pocket behind it.
Fire red? Lipstick red?

On the right side there is a huge gusseted zip pocket. And did I mention TWO penloops????

Gusseted zip pocket

Close-up of the label!

Love how pretty the penloop attachment on the backside looks!

Because it's so pretty and rare and because I loved the movie so much, I decided to organise a give-away of the complete package.

You can win the Personal Topaz AND the movie DVD!!!!

What do you need to do to make a chance to win this fun set?

Oh Gillio ....!

A few weeks back, I became curious what this whole Gillio-enthusiasm was all about. So I decided to take a closer look by becoming a member of the closed Facebook group “Gillio Firenze”. I’m tempted to add “the rest is history”.

What happened was that one of the group members decided to sell her medium sized red croco Gillio and I jumped onto it. This was within a few hours of my membership! I was very very lucky that Brittney agreed to ship the binder internationally.

After a few days of impatient waiting (the Gillio being hijacked by customs didn’t help either), she finally arrived. I was in awe of the craftsmanship and beauty of this binder!

The layout is simply perfect, especially when you use your planner also as a wallet like I do (a short demonstrating video is available here: Blue Gillio as wallet/planner combo).

On the left is a large zipped pocket, with a smaller pocket  (where I keep my paper money) and one credit card slot (I’m not using that one at the moment). Behind this is a secretarial pocket. On the right hand side of the planner are five stitched card slots, with another roomy secretarial pocket. And the penloop (which is big enough to accommodate a Lamy fountain pen: YAY!).The Gillio is delivered with a silver ball pen, that also writes beautifully (and that takes Parker Gel Pen refills!).

The best feature however is the full width back pocket, which allows you to store A5 sheets in a very comfortable manner. The binder still closes easily.

The planner is unbelievably soft and flexible! Look:

I find the Gillio very beautiful and very well made. If you encounter a little scratch in the leather (which is bound to happen when you throw it in your bag like I do), you can simply rub it out. Perfect!

I’m not using the original Gillio inserts, because I’m quite content with my own setup. My only gripe is that the Gillio Compagna won’t take Franklin Covey Compact inserts: they hang out and need trimming. Apparantly this is not a problem with the Gillio  Amica line, which is a bit wider, but lacks that gorgeous full width wallet pocket. A girl’s gotta choose ….

Gillio Compagna with untrimmed FC pages ....

So I trimmed my FC inserts. Not knowing if I would want to trim the entire next calendar year, I experimented with Dayrunner 2PPD inserts (same size as Filofax), that Mella so generously forwarded to me. However: the paper quality is inferior to Franklin Covey. Fountain pen causes bleedthrough. Another downside is that the appointment schedule goes from 8 a.m. to only 5 p.m. Hello?! With four kids who attend clubs in the afternoon/at night, and a hubbie who works many nights, this turned out to be a big disappointment.
Which is why I have just ordered Franklink Covey inserts for 2014. So, trimming it is …

Trimmed FC 2PPD inserts
To cut the story short: I'm absolutely in love with Gillio! So much, that I meanwhile own three different Gillio's: the red croco (featured here), the blue croco and the gold Epoca.

And dare I say it?
I sold 23 Filofaxes over the past weeks without a single regret!

If you visit my YouTube channel, you can find another video on my red croco!

Teal Baroque for sale!

A little while ago I happened to discover in Switzerland. The website does not include a shopping cart, nor are there any prices mentioned, but it does have a telephone number, which will connect you to very nice French and German speaking (didn't try out English, but I suppose they speak English as well) ladies.
I had found a teal Baroque on their website (in personal size) and since the layout is so similar to the Malden, I assumed that it could take my Franklin Covey compact-sized inserts as well.

The nice lady on the phone told me she had only one teal Baroque left, and if I'd like I could buy it. Since they only accepted bank transfer payment, it took a few days before the thing was shipped and a few more days until it arrived, because for some reason Customs kept the parcel behind for a few days (they never do that to parcels from any other country?).

Thus it was in great anticipation that I ripped open the parcel to discover the imfamous Baroque Filofax:
Teal Baroque Filofax
I immediately saw that the binder was in fact a bit smaller in width and length compared to the personal Malden. Nevertheless, I swapped the inserts and moved them into the Baroque.
It was the most pityful sight: the tabs were sticking out completely and I was not very happy.

Though I love the softness of the leather (I don't know of any Filofax binder that is so squishable!), and the inside embossing is just gorgeous, I felt that this baby was not gonna grow old with me.

Embossed leather on the inside

Which is why I decided to put it up for sale.  I know there are a lot of Filofax lovers out there who are very eager to find a Baroque, but I felt it was impossible for me to just pick one person to give it to. That's why I put the Baroque on eBay.

The first response has been rather overwhelming. However, I don't intend to win any profit with this sale. Therefore I decided that I will donate any amount above the purchase price (the original shipping costs will be on me) to a good cause that is supported by my home town. The cause is titled ChildLearn and aims to free children in India of child labour and give them a proper education instead. (In my YouTube video I accidentially claimed that it were children in Peru, because I mixed it up with another organisation.)

If you want to have a closer look at the Baroque and don't mind another round of babbling of myself, here is my Video about it:

Happy bidding!

While I was away from my blog ...

.... I did other stuff!

Like, make some video's on YouTube (all planner-related). In case you missed one or two or even all (!!!) of them, here is a short overview:

Free Time Management e-book!

This is just a very quick message to tell you that my time management e-book is now available for free! (if you don't mind the hassle of subscribing to my wonderful newsletter, that is ... ;-))

Hop over to my new website and get yourself a copy!

Oh, and don't worry: all my planner and time management related posts will still get posted on this blog.

It's just that not much is happening in that department right now. I'm still over-the-moon delighted with my Franklin Covey Compact inserts (though I've moved to the Seasons refills). I swap binders between the pink Daytimer and the tan Aurora, totally depending on my mood.

I had a very short love affair with the infamous Veronica binder in Latte, but we never really hit it off. The color is divine, but that buckle ..... (le sigh).
Should you be interested, drop me a line. Otherwise, you might find it on Adspot in a few weeks.

Oh, here's a picture! A quite crappy one, I admit ...

Yummy pink Daytimer binder with FC inserts

Although I vowed not to buy any new ring binders this entire year, I received this beautiful binderbfrim Day timer today. Since I ordered it way before Christmas, I guess I'm still good, right? ;-)

So, why did I order a Daytimer binder despite being happily married to my FC Compact Aurora? The answer is short and simple : COLOR!
But first let me introduce you to the portable raspberry Malibu binder in pebble-grain cowhide ....

Very girly and pinkish, right? And actually pretty huuuuuuuuuge, although it has only 25mm rings! You'll see what I mean in the next picture where I compare it to the meanwhile infamous Malden:

And while we're at it, here's a side-by-side with the crimson Malden and the tan (or rather brick red) Franklin Covey Aurora!

And a comparison with the A5 Finchley:

The Malibu has a big bonus : it's not padded, just a double layer of leather, which makes it superfloppy, just the way I love my binders.

This means that not only does it lay flat as a pancake...

... it could also fly away if I would allow it to!

So, how about its inards? On the left, the Malibu comes with only three, yet roomy credit card slots, one ID slot, a large slip pocket behind that, where you could comfortably fit some paper money, and a very spacious zip pocket.

On the right-hand side there's a notepad pocket plus two smaller credit card sized pockets on top of it.

And did you see the pen loops?! They're TWO of them and they are so roomy that even a fat Lamy fountain pen would still be a loose fit!
Nearly goes without saying, but the FC inserts are a perfect fit.

The Malibu binder is available in tons of colors like pink, coral, red, purple (allegedly more a brownish purple), bright blue, apple green, latte and black.
It does miss the delicious leather smell of Filofaxes, but the leather is very nice and soft to the touch.

Too bad I vowed not to buy more, cost I would have loved this one in even more colors .....
